Sports Direct has partnered with Cork GAA to launch Born to Play, a new four-part content series designed to showcase the people and community structures that underpin Gaelic Games in the county.

The series, which is being rolled out across both organisations’ social media channels, focuses on the players, volunteers, supporters and families who collectively shape the identity of Cork GAA, positioning the sport as a central pillar of community life.

From a Sport for Business perspective, the initiative reflects the growing importance of storytelling-led content in strengthening brand alignment and deepening emotional engagement with audiences.

By focusing on authentic, grassroots narratives, the campaign moves beyond traditional sponsorship visibility to highlight shared values and cultural connection.

The opening episode centres on the role of the supporter, following lifelong fan David Horgan and his matchday experience, capturing the rituals and emotional investment that drive attendances and atmosphere.

Tune in later today where we will have the first episode in our Review of the week’s best Video Content.

Subsequent episodes will broaden the lens to explore the wider ecosystem of the GAA. A focus on volunteers highlights the often unseen operational backbone of clubs, with contributions from Glen Rovers GAA Club and behind-the-scenes activity at Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

The third instalment brings together Cork legends Seán Óg Ó hAilpín and Briege Corkery, reflecting on elite performance, legacy and the responsibility associated with representing the county at the highest level.

The final episode shifts to the current generation, following inter-county players Rob and Eoin Downey and exploring the role of family support and personal sacrifice in sustaining elite performance pathways.

The Born to Play series underscores the depth of connection between sport and community within the GAA, while also illustrating how brands such as Sports Direct are increasingly leveraging content to align with purpose-driven narratives.

As rights holders and commercial partners continue to explore new ways of engaging audiences, initiatives like this demonstrate the value of culturally relevant storytelling in reinforcing both brand identity and the enduring social impact of sport.
