Giovanni Trapattoni brought Ireland to a first major Championship Finals in a decade and was but an errant hand away from the possibility of a World Cup in South Africa. Of course, it didn’t end well with the disappointment of Euro 2012, followed by the defeat to Germany and a poor final chapter in recent days.
Elsewhere today on Sport for Business we look at how the change of manager may be a good thing for the FAI as well as for the team, but here let us remember what an exceptional reputation he brought with him, and wonder if perhaps we did not get the best out of ‘Trap’.
