BOYLE Sports is to open its 400th retail betting shop at Galway Racecourse as part of a new multi-year partnership with one of Irish racing’s most recognisable venues.
The initial three-year agreement will see the bookmaker operate a dedicated on-course betting shop at Ballybrit, while also increasing its branding and wider presence across the Galway racing calendar.
The opening marks a notable retail milestone for BOYLE Sports, which began with John Boyle’s first shop in County Armagh in 1982 and has since grown into one of the best-known betting brands across Ireland and the UK.
The new shop at Galway Racecourse will form part of a wider race-day experience for customers and racegoers, with the partnership also including additional sponsorship opportunities at the track.
BOYLE Sports already has a strong association with Galway Races, including title sponsorship of the Saturday of the famous summer festival. That day features the €110,000 BOYLE Sports Handicap Hurdle and the €80,000 Galway Tribes Hurdle.
The Galway announcement comes as BOYLE Sports continues to expand its retail footprint, including a recently announced ÂŁ100 million commitment to growing its presence in the UK market. The company said the opening of its 400th shop at Ballybrit also underlines its ongoing commitment to its Irish roots and to the racing sector here.
The bookmaker is already a major supporter of Irish racing, including through its title sponsorship of the Irish Grand National, as well as partnerships and race sponsorships at tracks including Leopardstown, Navan and Killarney, and as the long-term partner of the BOYLE Sports Irish Greyhound Derby at Shelbourne Park.
“Opening our 400th shop here marks a major milestone in the BOYLE Sports journey and reflects just how far we’ve come since 1982,” said SinĂ©adh Crowe, Head of Irish Retail Operations for BOYLE Sports.
“It’s a proud moment for everyone involved and underlines our continued commitment to retail, Irish horse racing and delivering a top-class experience for customers on race day.”
“The Galway Races is one of the standout events in the Irish sporting calendar, so we’re delighted to be strengthening our relationship with the racecourse through this new multi-year partnership.”
Michael Moloney, CEO of Galway Racecourse, said the partnership was an important addition for the venue.
“It’s a real privilege to have BOYLE Sports open their 400th shop here on-site as part of this exciting new multi-year partnership with Galway Races,” he said.
“We’re absolutely delighted to strengthen our ties with such a powerhouse brand with deep roots in Irish racing, and we’re excited to build on that shared heritage as we work together to enhance the experience for racegoers over the coming years.”
The Galway Races remains one of the great gathering points in Irish sport, with its summer festival combining racing, hospitality, tourism, fashion, business and community in a way that few other sporting occasions can match.
Sport for Business Perspective
Choosing Ballybrit as the location for its 400th shop is a nice touch, placing the brand and its history at the heart of one of the most commercially powerful weeks in Irish racing. It also points to the continued relevance of retail betting alongside digital growth.
The deal adds another major commercial partner for Galway Races, one with an established commitment to racing and a direct interest in enhancing the race-day experience.
This is a partnership that works for both sides. BOYLE Sports gets profile, presence and authenticity in a setting that matters deeply to its customers. Galway Races gets investment, activation and a partner with the scale to support the continued development of one of Irish sport’s most distinctive commercial assets. Winner alright.
