As an airline timing is an important part of the business.  Hosting a media event with Johnny Sexton on the day after Simon Zebo’s announcement that he was leaving Ireland to play in France showed that this extends to marketing as well as timetabling.

He is splashed across the pages of all mainstream today and was out and about across the airwaves yesterday as an ambassador for the airline and to highlight a 30 percent reduction in fares to European destinations if you book before next Monday.

Before chatting with the fourth estate he gave a Rugby coaching session to students from Castleknock College and Mount Sackville.  That’s something they will treasure and remember for many years.

Sexton was an ambassador for the airline during his own time in Paris and we wrote at the time about the value of seeing him in a departure lounge traveling backward and forwards between Dublin and Charles de Gaulle airport.  Could Zebo be in line for a similar role flying from Cork to Paris over the next two years, regardless of whether he is coming back for Ireland training sessions?

On Friday morning we will carry an exclusive interview with Aer Lingus Director of Communications Declan Kearney looking at the airline’s involvement with sponsorship and partnership across rugby and other sports.

It promises to be an insight into how such partnerships are created and how they work to best effect.  It’s what we do at Sport for Business.  We hope you will join us to see the results.
