Glohealth AthleticsGlohealth is the new sponsor of the National Athletics Championship Programme and the Fit4Life initiative which aims to expand clubs relevance to recreational runners.

The deal will run until the end of 2017 and is worth a substantial six figure sum for the sport.

The deal gives real confidence in terms of planning and execution and will help Athletics Ireland to capitalise on the 17% year on year growth in membership achieved so far in 2014.

It comes off the back of a spring campaign run by the health insurer around the theme that  #RunnersareAmazing

“This is a big commitment for Glohealth and we are going to be active partners in building a really strong bond between Athletics Ireland, our business and the people we can reach together,” said Glohealth Commercial Director David Crimmins speaking to Sport for Business.

“We launched two years ago on July 1st and our innovative approach has gained six times the number of customers that previous new entrants to the market were able to achieve in that initial period.”

“Sport and healthy living are central to what we believe and what we deliver.”

“As an example we offer €30 cask back on policies for children where the child is a registered and active member of a sports club.”

“Encouraging behaviour that will lead to long term health and fitness improvement is good for everyone.  The tagline of our ad is that ‘you are amazing but when you’re not we will be.'”

“That’s the essence of how people see insurance and we want to be part of people leading a healthy and active lifestyle.”

“The partnership with Athletics Ireland enables us to help make a difference.  We will be active in supporting the Fit 4 Life programme through clubs and expanding that to more and more people.  We will also be right behind the National Championships, looking to create stars of the future that will inspire others.”

“Our activation of this sponsorship will be about adding depth, not just branding and we are excited about some of the initiatives we are planning out over the coming weeks, months and years.”

“One of the key objectives of the Athletics Ireland Strategic Plan 2013-2016 is to promote health and fitness to the population as a whole,” said John Foley, CEO of Athletics Ireland.

“By partnering with GloHealth over the next three years we have a significant opportunity to really make an impact on both the health and fitness of people throughout the country”.

“I am delighted with the opportunity to work with the impressive team at GloHealth, we have ambitious plans to grow our membership and to provide athletes with the appropriate competition pathways to allow them to develop to their full potential through the ranks – there is no doubt that GloHealth’s sponsorship will be a catalyst in achieving these objectives”.

While on Athletics, we would also like to wish the very best to David Gillick who has announced his retirement from competitive athletics.  Like Derval O’Rourke last week, he is a good thinker and speaker on the sport and will doubtless play a role in it’s promotion in the months and years to come.
