Conversation starters happen more from sport than almost any other consistent form of human activity and the talk will be flowing throughout this weekend at an event being hosted at the Twisted Pepper in Dublin.
‘Back Page’ aims to be like an Electric Picnic for the sporting classes. There are ten talks in total split between a main stage upstairs and the basement of the venue on Middle Abbey Street in Dublin which specialises in craft beers and has built a strong reputation.
Brian Kerr and Steve Redmond kicked things off last night while this evening Vincent Hogan, Shane McGrath and Claire McNamara will be sharing stories from the front line of the sporting press box and Paddy Power will explore the world of online betting. Ken Doherty on the world of snooker and Tim Lewis revealing the inspiring story of a Rwandan cycling team complete the line up.
Tomorrow it’s the turn of Mike Moynihan to guide us through the world of Gaaconomics. Nick Ryan brings us to The Summit in a talk on his riveting documentary film. There will also be talks on Racism in sport and Gender Politics, a subject we are exploring in detail at present.
Tickets can be booked here. It is a shame that tomorrow’s talks coincide with major matches at the Aviva Stadium and Croke Park but it’s a busy time of year and this event does look like one for the diary, and one we will keep an eye out for in the future.
We were pleased to be at the live broadcast of Game On, 2FM’s excellent sports show with Damien O’Meara last night. It was a special event with Rabobank in advance of Leinster and Munster and the show came live from Lansdowne Rugby Club in the shadow of the Aviva Stadium.
Michael Corcoran, Les Kiss, Nora Stapleton, Trevor Horgan and Shane Byrne were among the guests with a great atmosphere flying around and we hope to see more of these events bringing the programme out of the studio and in front of the fans.
