The RBS 6 Nations was launched yesterday at the Hurlingham Club in London with a massive media presence for the captains and managers of the teams getting ready to kick off the tournament in two weeks time.

It’s a big year for Rugby in commercial terms with the first season of the new European Rugby Champions’ Cup, a similar fresh start for the Guinness PRO12 and the Rugby World Cup taking place in England and Wales in October.

That puts its own pressure on the traditional centre piece of the calendar to stand up and be proud.  It certainly has though and we have a video below of how BBC Wales are building up to their first game.  We thought that Ireland goes rugby crazy in February.

The launch was streamed live yesterday on a variety of sources, including Sport for Business and today we bring you footage from behind the scenes.

Creating rich content with players and away from the main spotlight is now an essential of sports marketing around the big events.

The ability to capture material that has more of the sponsor’s stamp than might be possible in the mass market viewership of the match itself is part of how brands can deepen their own association with the event.

RBS announced yesterday that over 16,000 had taken part in the Rugby Force initiative across Britain, and through Ulster Bank on the island of Ireland and that they were committed to building that initiative in the coming years.

Here’s a glimpse than of what it’s like behind the scenes at a major sports launch…

… and of how Rugby means something a bit special in the Valleys of Wales…
