The South Dublin side becomes the seventh from the Greater Dublin Area to be part of the League. They will play their home matches at Stradbrook, known as the home of Blackrock College Rugby Club whose proposed ground share deal with Cuala GAA recently came to a halt.
Cabinetry will draw from a rich hinterland including Sallynoggin home of St Joseph’s Boys Club, Dalkey where Paul McGrath first played, and Shankill, most recently home to Stephanie Roche.
It has a very strong under age set up and in 2014 hosted the 25th anniversary of it’s popular Mini World Cup which had over 1,000 players in boys, girls and special needs categories.
“We are delighted to become a new member of the SSE Airtricity League, said Club Vice Chairman Pierse Toal.
“We believe this to be a natural progression for the club and builds on the very strong foundation of our under-age structures and provides a pathway for our players to the SSE Airtricity League.”
“We look forward to the challenges and opportunities ahead with great enthusiasm and commitment. We would like to thank Blackrock College RFC for their help in making this possible.”
The fixtures for the new SSE Airtricity Division One Campaign will be published later today.
Sport for Business will be looking at the way in which clubs in the SSE Airtricity League are facing up to the new season over the coming weeks.
