Sam Bennett’s stage win on the Champs Elysees and his securing the Green Jersey as points winner of the 2020 Tour de France is right up there among the sporting highs of the year.
TG4 have broadcast every stage of the marathon over the past three weeks and Bennett has been to the fore throughout.
Yesterday was his second stage win and the achievement puts him up there alongside Sean Kelly and Stephen Roche in the history of Irish riders in the sport’s ultimate test.
We can only salute the effort that has gone into the achievement.
