They might have just missed out on a grammy last night but surely Dublin band Fontaines DC will be OK with that knowing they’ll be on the Bohemian away jersey this season.
The link was revealed on Forbes Magazine’s influential site on Saturday morning, gaining a worldwide audience for the partnership, and the social campaign it is highlighting.
Focus Ireland is the third element on the new kit and the charity will benefit from 15 per cent of the profit on sales.
“The reality is that most ordinary people can’t afford to live in Dublin,” said Bohs Chief Operating Officer Daniel Lambert.
“Homelessness can and should be solved and we need to ensure as a society that it is not normalised and accepted.”
The band who have taken the music world by storm are from Phibsboro and used to practice in a shed adjacent to Dalymount Stadium.
“The spirit surrounding Bohs is something that we found both welcoming and a true necessity to forward-thinking, socially conscious action on a community level,” added Drummer Tom Coll.
“Seeing their Refugees Welcome kit last season was an eye-opener to what kind of a message a football kit could achieve, instilling pride in a community and also spreading awareness and raising money for a social issue that is grossly neglected.
“We hope that this jersey can do something similar with Focus Ireland and we can raise some money for the tireless work they provide for the homeless community in Ireland.”
That collaboration with Amnesty Ireland last year was aimed at helping to bring asylum seekers into the community through welcoming them at matches.
With record numbers of club members, who each own a small stake in the club, the message on social justice is striking a chord.
The partnerships are made possible by the support of main club sponsor Des Kelly Carpets who signed a long term partnership two years ago and whose brand remains on the home jersey.
Join us later this week as we continue to build up to the start of the SSE Airtricity League season with an interview with Daniel Lambert of Bohemian FC.
