The Irish Government Budget for 2024 will be revealed in headline format later today and then in greater detail over the next 36 hours from each of the Departments.

The Federation of Irish Sport has put forward a call based around four key asks – for increased core funding, changes in taxation around VAT and donations, an increase in the rate and the sharing of betting duty and insurance reform.

The headline lift in last year’s budget was €8 million, rising the overall investment to in excess of @100 million and maintaining the rate of increase required to meet the guidelines set out in the National Sports Policy.

There was a strong argument that much of this was eaten up by inflation over the past year and that more will be needed in order to maintain staffing levels needed to implement the programmes and open the facilities provided for across other areas of Government funding.

It is generally a two to three day process for all the detail to emerge on what is being given to sport.

One of the key elements being sought is the move to a multi-annual basis of core funding, as has been made with regard to high-performance, and that alone would give a degree of certainty.

We will bring you news and analysis of the funding as it emerges over the coming days.
