Mags D'Arcy, Aisling Thompson and Lorraine Ryan 17/62014The Camogie Association has launched the 2014 Liberty Insurance Championship with a new campaign that aims to bring the game to a wider audience.

Our Game Your Game will feature imagery and content and tell the back stories of inter-county camogie players including Mags D’Arcy of Wexford, Ashling Thompson of Cork, and Lorraine Ryan of Galway, during the course of the season.

It will use video, social media and storytelling to bring the sport out from under helmets and into a broader audience.

“Focus, determination, skill and commitment are the qualities of all high performing athletes,” said Camogie Association President Aileen Lawlor, “and that applies to every Camogie player in this year’s Liberty Insurance All Ireland Championship”

“In our 110th year, we want all hurling, GAA and sporting fans to look at our game and at the powerful, strong, athletic women who play it with new eyes.”

“We believe that if you support the hurlers in your county, you should give equal respect and support to your county camogie players. It’s your game every bit as much as it is our game. If you have never been to a camogie championship match we want you to come and see us play, and be part of the positive change that’s happening in women’s sport”.

Camogie also unveiled a new championship loyalty card allowing access to all rounds of the Championship, including quarter-finals, semi-finals and the All Ireland finals at Croke Park in September for only €40. The Cairde Camogie ticket can be purchased via tickets.ie, GAA outlets and Centra and Supervalu stores.

“We are proud to continue our partnership with the Camogie Association as they celebrate their 110th year anniversary,” said Patrick O’Brien, CEO of Liberty Insurance as the company commenced year two of its five year deal across the All Ireland Camogie and Hurling Championships.

“As one of Ireland’s leading female sports organisations, Camogie has a hugely important role to play in the continued promotion not just of one of our oldest games, but in opening up the sport to a new generation of potential players.”

“We were also delighted to recently announce our insurance of the Camogie All Ireland winners’ medals in addition to those of Gaelic Football and Hurling, which will provide reassurance and security for the players by protecting what is so special to them”.

There are 547 Camogie clubs around the country, a 23% increase over the last decade of growth and with the higher profile afforded the sport through sponsorship and associated media the numbers of players is accelerating at every age level.

Sport for Business will carry an interview with Camogie Association CEO Joan O’Flynn in the coming weeks as part of a series looking at the future plans of our member Sporting organisations.
