Each weekend we select three performances from Irish sport that are worthy of highlighting.

This week’s Champions of the Weekend is brought to us by PwC, one of Sport for Business’ partners and backers of our annual 30 under 30 feature.

Cuala GAA Club

Cuala became only the second team in history to have won a AIB Club All Ireland in both hurling and now football.

This is the club where I was asked to help out in the Academy session on a Saturday morning and which ever since has been a vital, brilliant and central part of my life.

This team is exceptional. Going 12 points up in a stunning first quarter then having the calm to withstand an Errigal Ciaran comeback that trimmed the lead to three.

They are managed by Austin O’Malley who spoke on Leadership at our Sport for Business Women and Sport Conference in November, with mentors Gerry Killion, Enda McGowan and Brian Mullally who themselves have collectively contributed more than a century of devotion to the club.

Brilliant.

Na Fianna GAA Club

The club of Dessie Farrell showed their own Dual strength when landing a Dublin Double in taking the AIB All Ireland Club Hurling Championship on a Croke Park Double bill.

Again it was a fast start that had the game won before some had taken their seats.

Manager Niall O’Ceallachain now steps up to the Dublin Hurling job starting next weekend.

Killester and Liffey Celtics Basketball

The National Cup Finals at the National Basketball Arena are among the liveliest and noisiest sporting occasions of the year.

Congratulations to the Men’s and Women’s Champions of 2025 producing another Dublin Double.
