The team was named by head coach Mike Ruddock at the Irish Headquarters of PwC on Spencer Dock in Dublin, giving a very visible opportunity for staff and clients to see at close quarters how the company and the team are linked.
“We are committed to supporting the development of Irish rugby through our sponsorship of the Under-20 team and wish them every success at the upcoming IRB Junior World Championship in France,” said Ronan Murphy, Senior Partner with PwC,speaking alongside Ruddock at the announcement.
The company’s investment in youth will run until at least 2016 and mirrors that of its involvement with the GAA through the Gaelic Players Association which was announced last year.
Involvement during the development of a players career can have many internal benefits as well as giving external publicity and recruitment advantages within a high achieving group and their supporters.
The profile of the IRB Junior World Championship, and the sponsorship, will be raised considerably by TG4 showing live coverage of each of Ireland’s Pool Games and the tournament semi finals and final.
Ireland share Pool B with Australia, Fiji and New Zealand and open their tournament against Australia on Wednesday, June 5 at Stade de la Rabine in Vannes.
TG4 will also be showing live coverage of the Irish Senior team’s tour of North America.
“We look forward to bringing these matches to TG4 viewers all over Ireland on free to view television and we are pleased that we are expanding the channel’s rugby portfolio which already includes rights to the Heineken Cup and the RaboDirect PRO12,” said TG4’s Rónán Ó Coisdealbha.
