The cameras were flashing and rolling at the IRFU High Performance Centre on the Sport Ireland Campus yesterday as Content Day took place for the Women’s Rugby World Cup.
Mary Maguire of Legacy Consultants for Aldi was there as was Gerry Nixon of Vodafone, both overseeing the pictures and reels that they will use to promote the brands and lift the team’s visibility as the countdown continues to what is expected to be a transformative tournament.
It is likely to start for Ireland, though, without the Guinness Six Nations Player of the Tournament Aoife Wafer, who it emerged yesterday had undergone a minor knee procedure and would be missing the two warm-up games against Scotland and Canada in the coming weeks.
“She’s had a procedure. It won’t keep her out of the World Cup,” said Ireland head coach Scott Bemand, who spoke with us at greater length for an interview that will appear in advance of the tournament.
“I think the World Cup warm-up games will come a little bit quickly. However, we have all the necessary things in place to get her back into the World Cup, depending on how specific markers are met, which will define the point at which it will happen. We’re pretty optimistic about how it’s gone so far.”
“It wasn’t even in live rugby. Just one of those things, got hit on the side of her leg. Relatively minor procedure, and hopefully she comes through it quickly.”
Ireland open the tournament against Japan and Wales before Facing the Black Ferns in Brighton on Sunday, September 7th.
