Currys Ireland has formally launched its partnership as the lead sponsor of The Munster Rugby Gaming Sim Racing team.

In February we revealed that Williams F1 Racing was to support Munster Rug by’s entry of a team into the SRO Sprint Series.

The team’s debut entry three weeks ago saw Munster Rugby Gaming team member Daire McCormack from Kildare win the race, leading from lights out to the chequered flag.

Tariq Gamil from Donegal is the other team member and they will be racing in the GT Europe Sprint Series and Endurance Racing Series across some of the world’s most iconic tracks between now and September.

The partnership will also see Currys sponsor Munster Rugby Gaming’s League of Legends team, which is currently in the final of the Nordic League, Division 2.

Munster Rugby Gaming was established by Munster Rugby in 2020 to grow new opportunities for the club with its younger fanbase as well as to widen its commercial footprint. The long-term goal is to become a multi-discipline club that reaches audiences beyond its traditional heartland.

“We are delighted to partner with Currys for Munster Rugby Gaming, extending an already successful partnership with Munster Rugby,” said Enda Lynch, Head of Enterprise Munster Rugby and Team Principal at Munster Rugby Gaming.

“As well as supplying hardware to our esports team, the partnership has allowed us to extend into the exciting world of Sim Racing, which is seeing staggering growth on the back of the Netflix documentary series ‘Drive to Survive’ and a resurgence in interest in F1.”

“Together with Currys and our racing partner Williams Racing, we have the right mix to ensure we give new followers of Sim Racing a traditional team they can support.”

“We are thrilled to extend our current partnership with Munster Rugby to include the esports division,” added Pauline Browne, Director of Marketing & E-Commerce at Currys Ireland.

“At Currys, we pride ourselves on being at the forefront of gaming so it’s incredibly exciting to see our technology being used to support an Irish team’s performance in the 2022 SRO Sprint Series. We look forward to seeing the team perform over the coming months.”

Williams Racing, competing in F1 with Nicholas Latifi and Alex Albon is a legendary name in the sport having won eight F1 Championships down the years. It is committed to working with Munster Rugby in areas of fan engagement and content.
