Cycling Ireland has announced a new Strategic Plan for its High-Performance operation between now and 2028.
This strategy was developed after extensive work and consultation with Sport Ireland, high-performance athletes, coaches, and external stakeholders.
It contains a total of 31 action plans across four key areas of Pathways, Athlete Support, Team Building and Communication
This announcement follows a successful 2024, which saw strong performances by Irish riders across all disciplines, highlighted by Paralympic, World, and European Championship medals.
In 2025, a new High-Performance Pathway and Para Pathway will also be implemented to develop the younger generation of aspiring professional riders.
“We are very excited to publish our new High-Performance Strategy 2025-28,” said Ian Dyer, High-Performance Director at Cycling Ireland.
“For several years, we have been working away in the background to rejuvenate the High-Performance Unit. Our current position is now much stronger than it has been in the past. So with the highlights of 2024 now in our rear-view mirror, it’s been appropriate that we took our time to take stock and develop a new strategy for the next Olympic and Paralympic Cycle.”
“It sets out what we believe is important to continue building success in our sport at the highest level.”
“There is a fresh emphasis on HP Pathways and HP Para Pathways, so I am particularly pleased that in the coming weeks, both of those areas will publish their specific strategies, too.”
“We have big ambitions for the years to come and will see some landmark projects come to fruition in the life of this strategy, which I believe will be truly transformative for Irish Cycling.”
“The document our High-Performance staff has put together here not only sets out clear goals and targets for the department over the next four years but also the pathways to achieve those goals,” added James Quilligan, CEO of Cycling Ireland.
“None of this would be possible without the continued support of all stakeholders in funding and resources or without the commitment and hard work of our staff and volunteers across the organisation.”
