Domino’s Pizza is one of the most familiar brands in the world and it has just signed up to it’s first Irish sports sponsorship in over a decade, being unveiled as the new title sponsor of the Basketball Ireland Men’s and Women’s Super League and Division One competitions.
The game-changing partnership will see Domino’s bring fresh energy, bigger promotions, and extra support to the top levels of Irish basketball, helping the sport continue to grow throughout Ireland.
12 years ago the brand was a sponsor of Ulster Rugby’s mini-rugby offering.
The sponsorship marks a real boost for the sport, and comes after AIG came on board as the sport’s community partner in 2024. Two brands of that size and scale is a huge vote of confidence in the sport here.
The Men’s and Women’s Super League and Division One showcase the very best talent in the country, and now, with Domino’s backing, the competitions are set to get bigger and better.
The partnership announcement comes at a crucial part of the season, with clubs firmly focussed on making the end-of-season playoffs, ahead of the Domino’s Super League and Division One finals, which take place on April 12th and 13th at the National Basketball Arena in Dublin.
The sponsorship will continue through a full season from 2025 into 2026 and all being equal is one that is likely to thrive and extend for time beyond that as well.
Eoin Corrigan, Head of Marketing Domino’s Pizza Ireland, said: “Basketball’s popularity is growing massively across Ireland and this partnership is all about celebrating the talent, passion, and excitement of the sport. Basketball is fast, dynamic, and full of energy – just like us – so we’re delighted to support the game and it’s community.
With 68 stores already in Ireland and as many as eight new ones opening this year, the brand itself will lend a lot of support to the sport across the different communities where stores and clubs map well against each other.
“60 percent of our promotion remains in traditional menus and leaflets but we are experimenting and doing a lot more in digital, reaching out to younger audiences and Basketball is a great fit for that,” he told us at today’s launch.
“Our franchisees do a lot of community and sport engagement at a local level so when we brought the idea of a national sponsorship to them it was very popular.”
“Domino’s are coming on board at a hugely exciting part of the season, with clubs in the hunt for a playoff spot. We will be trying out a few things at matches, playing into the reality that pizza, like basketball is a great way of bringing people together.
“We can’t wait to see who will be crowned Domino’s Men’s and Women’s Super League and Domino’s Men’s and Women’s Division One champions in April.”
“To have a brand like Domino’s invest in our leagues is a massive moment for Irish basketball,” added Basketball Ireland CEO John Feehan.
“Their support will help us grow the game, reach new audiences, and continue building momentum for the sport in every corner of Ireland.
The sport is in rude good health with our schools, clubs, community teams and international teams thriving. Bringing another globally known brand to the sport, alongside AIG and Nike in recent months makes everybody feel good about the way the sport is heading and increases our appeal to those yet to become part of the buzz.”
SPORT FOR BUSINESS PERSPECTIVE
To add a long absent Irish sports sponsor in Dominos, as well as AIG and Nike in the space of 12 months, is testament to the appeal of the sport in reaching out across ages and genders.
WHAT’S UP NEXT?
The Domino’s Pizza Super League and Division One Finals will take place across April 12th and 13th.
