Drogheda United turned 25 defeats in 2011 into a 2012 season that will live long in the memory.  A comeback from 2-0 down to win 3-2 against Cork early in the season lit a spark that would burn bright through the year and result in the EA Sports Cup being brought back to Louth, the securing of a second place finish in the Airtricity Premier League and a return to Europe for fans who might have feared a drop to the first division.
Performance on the pitch was matched by changes on the commercial side of the club and both have been necessary in bringing the Claret and Blue back to where they sit now on the eve of the new season.
“We have two key sponsors on board,” said Drogheda United Media Officer Roisín Phillips speaking to Sport for Business on Tuesday.
Scotch Hall Shopping Centre are on the front of our jerseys and it has been great to provide benefit for local businesses through association with our fan base during such a great year.”
“This is the second year of our deal and we hope it will bring as much success for both sides as last season.”
“Our second major partnership is with Hunky Dory who have naming rights on the stadium.”
“This three year deal has just been extended by a further 12 months and with plans advancing on the idea of a new stadium project we are staying close on the potential which this could deliver.”
“Our kit supplier is Nike, and sales of Claret and Blue rose last year with the fortunes of the team.  We also have a number of smaller but no less important deals for match sponsorship, ground advertising, player sponsorship and programme advertising with local businesses.”
“The Europa League games this summer will bring great excitement to the area and we have a special shirt sponsorship available for those games.”
“Supporters and potential commercial partners can get a taste of what it will be like with the visit of Turkish side Trabzonspor in a game to be televised live on Setanta Sport on March 21st.”
“The game is being played at Tallaght Stadium, at the request of Trabzonspor, which gives greater capacity and TV facilities than we have at present and we hope to attract a strong attendance with buses laid on and ticket prices pitched at €15 for adults and €5 for children.”
“It will also be an opportunity to reconnect with many Drogheda fans who may not have such regular contact now as they might have before moving to Dublin.”
“We have an attractive season ticket package for 2013 with a family ticket covering two adults and two children priced at less than €300 for the whole campaign.”
“A main focus of this season will be connecting with children, the fans of our bright future through manger and player visits arranged through juvenile clubs and schools.”
Drogheda United has a strong online presence with up to date web postings, excellent player profiles and a downloadable package of commercial opportunities for the year ahead.
