The Dublin GAA jersey has long been the best seller for sporting retailers in Ireland and yesterday marked the launch of a new design to tempt fans as we head towards the busiest consumer spending period of the year.
Dublin players Aoife Kane, Ali Twomey, Brian Howard and Eoghan O’Donnell representing each of the four codes as ever by the sponsors, were on hand at Parnell Park yesterday to launch the new alternate jersey and playing kit.
Dublin rarely have to switch to an alternate colour with the sky blue not clashing with the colours of any other county. Nevertheless, variety is always a good thing and this new variant will join a wide selection of alternatives on the hangers in-store and the pages online.
“The new jersey represents an eye-catching bold and vibrant look for Dublin GAA teams,” according to the never understated storytelling when the worlds of fashion and sport cross over.
To some it may be redolent of the classic Argentina shirt made famous across the world by Maradona and Messi, but it is also a nod to the tradition of striped Dublin shirts dating back to the 1980s. My own favourite is the 1983 edition with a thin navy stripe that was worn when Dublin beat Galway in an infamous final that ended with only 26 players on the pitch.
“We are proud of our continued association with Dublin GAA, a relationship that stretches back over the last seven years,” said AIG Ireland General Manager Aidan Connaughton.
“We look forward to seeing our brand on the front of this new Dublin GAA away jersey in the upcoming 2022 season, as all four codes strive for success.”
“We are delighted to release the latest Dublin alternative kit and look forward to seeing the teams across the four codes wearing it in the coming seasons,” said Tomás Quinn, Commercial and Marketing Director at Dublin GAA.
“It is exciting to unveil the latest O’Neills Dublin alternate jersey,” added Tony Towell, Managing Director at O’Neill’s.
“We greatly value our longstanding partnership with Dublin GAA and are proud to produce such high-quality, eye-catching jerseys which we know will be worn with pride by the players and supporters alike.”
The Dublin GAA jersey is available to purchase straight away from the official retail partner of Dublin GAA, Intersport Elverys in-store and online at www.elverys.ie as well as at www.oneills.com.
