Supermac’s has been confirmed as a new sponsor of Gaelic games at the University of Galway.
The move extends the company’s long-standing association with sport in the west of Ireland into higher education.
The agreement will provide financial support for the university’s men’s football, ladies football and hurling programmes, including playing jerseys, team equipment and other resources.
The launch also introduced McKeever Sports as the university’s new official Gaelic games kit supplier, with newly designed jerseys providing a shared identity across the three programmes.
Supermac’s founder and Managing Director Pat McDonagh highlighted the company’s Galway roots and its longstanding support for Gaelic games.
Des Ryan, Director of Sport and Physical Wellbeing at University of Galway, welcomed the investment as an important contribution to developing the university’s sporting programme.
The partnership is intended to support players competing at the highest levels of higher education sport while also creating opportunities for students who are taking up Gaelic games for the first time.
The launch featured student athletes Gavin Lee, Eva Noone and Matthew Thompson, reflecting the three sporting programmes covered by the agreement.
Sport for Business Perspective
University sport offers sponsors a distinctive combination of competitive performance, participation and engagement with young adults.
For Supermac’s, the agreement extends an established association with Gaelic games into an environment closely connected to the company’s regional identity.
Including men’s football, ladies’ football and hurling gives the sponsorship a broader reach than a single-team arrangement.
The sponsorship also links financial support with equipment provision, helping create a consistent visual identity across the university’s Gaelic games programmes.
The longer-term value will be reflected in the opportunities created for student athletes and the development of a stronger sporting environment within the university.
