Nobody in sport underestimates the financial returns to be gained from effective merchandising and the GAA are rolling out a range of new products to secure the hearts, minds and Euros of dedicated fans.
The Association has launched a hand-made replica model of the Croke Park stadium, made by an Irish company Supreme Stadium.  The models are mounted on a wooden base and come complete with a bilingual history of the stadium.  They retail at a price of €125.
“The level of detail and craftsmanship depicted in each model is second to none and I have no doubt it will adorn many houses the length and breadth of the country and beyond,” said GAA Commercial Director Peter McKenna.
This is the latest merchandising move from the GAA which recently launched its own Jewellery collection to add to the replica shirts, county and club branded gear that has been available over time.  If these initiatives can successfully tap into the overseas market they could drive significant revenues in future years.
Given the history of the stadium, as witnessed through the Eircom timeline launched in connection with that company’s sponsorship of the All Ireland Football Championships, there may also be a market for models of the stadium as it was at key moments in its history.
