Glenamaddy GAA Club in County Galway have been allocated €4 million from the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund.

They were successful in receiving 100% of what they applied for, to fund a new multi-use community and enterprise facility in Glenamaddy.

Out of 30 projects, Glenamaddy were the only sports and community based project who received this round of funding.

The win is a big one for the club and also for 2 Into 3 who partnered with them, guiding the application as they have done across the sporting spectrum for projects in the Sports Capital and Equipment Fund and the Large Scale Sports Infrastructure Fund in the republic of Ireland and for different streams of funding in Northern Ireland.

Members of the Club came together to formulate a plan to transform the grounds over the next three years, to ensure they are meeting the needs of their community and promoting inclusion. They then worked with 2 Into 3 to ensure that the technical side of the application matched up to the ambition.

The development plans includes a second full size Astro Playing Pitch, a 300 seat spectator stand with full wheelchair access, an Indoor Astro Arena measuring almost half the size of a full pitch, a public gym, four dressing rooms and disability equipment storage, as well as a floodlit public walking track around the site perimeter, a new car park with disability and EV charging spaces, as well as improved lighting.

The Rural Regeneration and Development Fund is a commitment of €1 billion by government to be invested in rural Ireland over the period 2019 to 2027.

The Rural Regeneration and Development Fund funds projects include

Infrastructure that may be needed to support town centre housing and/or commercial development
Measures to address building vacancy including building refurbishment, redevelopment and/or demolition
The development of community or public facilities infrastructure including improvements to roads, bridges and car parking facilities
Infrastructure that improves telecommunications connectivity
Projects that support job creation, entrepreneurship and innovation in rural areas (for example: development of Digital Hubs, Enterprise Hubs, Creative Hubs, or training facilities)
Enhancement of heritage and/or other community assets including the provision/enhancement of recreational or leisure facilities.

There is currently a fifth call to fund projects and this one provides a great model for how other clubs and sporting bodies might benefit.

“We are absolutely delighted for our clients at Glenamaddy GAA Club and look forward to seeing the impact of this multi-use community and enterprise facility in the coming years,” said 2 Into 3 Director of Grants and Economic Services Patricia Keenan.
