Each morning over the coming weeks and months we will bring you a daily summary of how sport is handling a return to activity in the wake of Covid-19.
RUGBY UNION
New Zealand Rugby has confirmed that the domestic form of Super Rugby involving the Blues, Chiefs, Hurricanes, Crusaders and Highlanders – known as Investec Super Rugby Aotearoa – will start on Saturday 13 June, allowing players four weeks to adequately prepare with contact training.
The competition will see the five Super Rugby clubs playing each other home and away over 10 weeks, with two matches every weekend. Matches will be played in closed stadiums until the Government advises an approach to managing mass gatherings in controlled venues that will allow fans to return.
On the opening weekend, the Highlanders will play the Chiefs in Dunedin on Saturday 13 June, with the Blues playing the Hurricanes in Auckland the following day. All matches will be played live on Sky Sport.
HORSE RACING
The local authority covering Epsom in England will hear an application today for Epsom Racecourse to stage the Investec Derby and Oaks, two of the most prestigious races of the year and of huge importance with regard to the breeding sector on a variety of weekend dates through the Summer.
Special permission is needed so that flexible planning can be undertaken.
British Horseracing is planning for a resumption of behind closed doors activity from June 1st.
US SPORT
The President of the National Collegiate Athletic Association has said he does not believe there will be any return to College Sport until such time as all college campuses are allowing students back to full-time education.
GOLF
The World Amateur Golf Championship scheduled for October in Singapore has been called off by the International Golf Federation due to concerns around international travel and the Coronavirus.
The Men’s and Women’s events were held at Carton House in Kildare in 2018 where Denmark and the USA won the respective tournaments.
PREMIER LEAGUE
