The Irish Greyhound Board has taken delivery at Shelbourne Park Stadium of the first greyhound ambulance utility vehicle.

The specially adapted “greyhound buggy” will assist in the transportation of injured greyhounds should they be injured on the track.

Its arrival is another element in the improvement of care and welfare arrangements across the sport.

The arrival of the Buggy at Shelbourne Park is part of an overall phased delivery of utility vehicles to other greyhound stadia nationwide.

In the programme for Government agreed last week and currently being voted on by members of Fine Gael Fianna Fáil and the Green Party it was outlined that the continued funding of Greyhound and Horse Racing was dependent on both sports maintaining and where needed, improving, standards relating to animal welfare.

That inclusion of the sport was welcomed by the Irish Greyhound Board.
