The Galway races have got off to a flying start with big crowds, sunshine and big celebrations.

The first two days have seen the 13 races won by 13 different owners representing eleven trainers, all feeding into the very democratic feel of what it is to be there.

Galway senior football manager Padraic Joyce and members of the team from Sunday’s All Ireland Final were at the track yesterday along with the winning 2022 Electric Ireland All Ireland Minor Championship winning side.

Among those celebrating on the track were members of the Magic Lads Syndicate (pictured above) whose Magic Chegaga was a winner last night in the featured Colm Quinn BMW Mile.

The syndicate is run by Publican and semi-professional darts player Tom Gibney and is drawn mainly from Trim and Navan. They were doubtless celebrating last night after the winner was backed from 12/1 into 6/1.

Boylesports are major sponsors at the Festival as well as in the world of darts so maybe Leon Blanche will be having a chat with Gibney about both his passions in this sporting life.

Trainer Brian Duffy only has four horses at his stable and two of them were in action last night after an eventful trip to the races with the horsebox that had set out first breaking down and alternative transport having to be sourced.

The action continues today with the Tote Galway Plate one of the Feature races of the whole meeting.

It will be shown live on RTÉ2 TV at 6-40 this evening and a little bird tells us that Fire Attack, owned by Michael O’Leary and trained by Jospeh O’Brien might run a big race.
