London is to revive the ‘Home Run’ service that proved popular during the London Olympics in 2012.
The service provides a bag carry service along main commuter routes out of the city and towards the suburbs and is being brought back to life after a one year hiatus with the support of Fitness First,
“Fitness First Home Run will allow us to offer our members the opportunity to transform their commute home into a convenient and healthy activity to compliment their regular gym training,” said David Jones, UK marketing director at Fitness First, which runs over 80 private fitness centres throughout the UK and fives times that number globally.
The idea of the Home Run is simple with groups gathering at main commuter stations and running along a pre determined route between stations out from the city centre. A bag drop service enables you to have briefcases or gear bags dropped in a secure zone at the station of your choice along the route.
At the time of the Olympics we suggested this was an idea that could be replicated within Dublin along the Dart or Luas routes.
Given the continued rise in popularity of fitness running, that same principle applies. What it would require is the transport companies, Dublin City Council, perhaps Athletics Ireland and a similar fitness club or sports wear sponsor, to come together and run a trial.
Sport for Business is available to host an initial discussion and exploration of the idea.
