The Olympic Flame has crossed over the border from Northern Ireland and is making its way south to Dublin where it will be carried over and above the streets of the city by a group of 40 torch bearers from sport and society.
The flame will be greeted by the President of Ireland, Michael D Higgins at the Olympic Council of Ireland offices in Howth.
It will then travel on to Croke Park where it will be carried across the Etihad Skyline rooftop tour of the stadium before setting off through the City Centre and finishing with Sonia O’Sullivan lighting a cauldron in St Stephen’s Green shortly after 1130.
RTE will broadcast live coverage of the Flame in Dublin from 9am this morning.
June will also see a large scale advertising campaign across london by Fáilte Ireland and Aer Lingus, the latter a supporter of Olympic Team Ireland, in a bid to boost tourism numbers.
The first phase of a €500,000 summer campaign will be to encourage London residents to escape the madness of being an Olympic host city and take a trip across the Irish sea.  It is estimated that an additional 18 million tube journeys will be undertaken during the course of the games, making the regular business of commuting too much to bear for some.
