Screen Shot 2016-05-17 at 6.38.11 a.m.Ireland is to the fore in a major new initiative around disability sport launched in Washington DC last night.

Universal Fitness Innovation & Transformation (UFIT) is a global social change movement, led by the UNESCO Chair in the Institute of Technology Tralee, Ireland.

UFIT’s ambition is to increase fitness opportunities for people with disabilities by connecting fitness clubs and centres with local disability service providers and groups.

The programme takes fitness management and staff through an inclusive journey that builds their skills, knowledge and competency to facilitate the inclusion of all in their service offerings and operations.

Last night’s USA launch had a strong Irish presence with a welcome address by Catherine Carty, the manager of the UNESCO Chair; Dr. Oliver Murphy, President of the Institute of Technology Tralee, Killian Fisher of the International Health, Racquet and Sports Club Association, and Mary Davis the newly appointed permanent CEO of Special Olympics International.
