The four proud provinces of Ireland, as the song goes, begin their BKT United Rugby Championship season this weekend based on a continued strong commercial partnership foundation.
Leinster, Munster, Ulster, and Connacht are aligned under a single five-year deal with Bank of Ireland, a partnership that spans both men’s and women’s teams, grassroots pathways, and community rugby, running through to 2028.
It also aligns with the Bank of Ireland partnership at the national level with the IRFU. It gives a solid and consistent base to the financial support but also the local promotion within business communities.
Leinster remain as the biggest dog in the fight on and off the field.
As reigning United Rugby Championship winners and perennial contenders in Europe, they carry the weight of expectation and the attraction of success. Another season of games at the Aviva Stadium and Croke Park will also add to visibility and attention ahead of a return to the redeveloped RDS in a year.
Bank of Ireland remains at the heart of the province’s commercial model, but Leinster has built a broader ecosystem of trusted partners. Among Sport for Business members, BDO, Energia, Guinness, Laya Healthcare, and Beauchamps are all central to its portfolio, creating a network that mirrors Leinster’s reputation for excellence on and off the pitch.
Munster’s association with Bank of Ireland stretches back more than 25 years. Alongside that anchor relationship, the province continues to work closely with Laya Healthcare and Guinness, brands that have become familiar presences to supporters in Thomond Park.
The province’s partnership with the University of Limerick reflects a commitment not just to rugby but to education and pathways, ensuring that the commercial side of the game is closely tied to its cultural and community roots.
Ulster steps into 2025/26 with renewed energy.
The unveiling of SAM Mouldings as its new front-of-shirt partner and the renaming of its Belfast home as the Affidea Stadium mark the beginning of a new chapter.
Off the field, Ulster also shares sponsorship alignment with Leinster through its partnership with BDO. The Ukster Rugby Business Club has been a winner for the province.
Sport for Business has been a part of that on stage and will be so again with a special guest in December from beyond the Rugby family, but with a deep connection to it.
Connacht, meanwhile, continues to embrace its role as the province of spirit and resilience. Energia and Laya Healthcare provide vital support, while the renewed Bank of Ireland deal secures long-term stability.
The new Dexcom Stadium is rising on the skyline and will be a huge boost, while the appointment of Stuart Lancaster as Head Coach will also draw significant visibility and attention.
Genesys remain as the principal commercial partner and we write elsewhere this morning about their new partnership with Lyca Mobile.
The shared Bank of Ireland partnership allows for national campaigns and collective messaging, while the individual deals provide distinct points of entry for brands seeking an entry to the sport.
It is a model that balances the strength of the collective with the individuality of the provinces.
There are challenges, of course. Leinster’s dominance on the field brings commercial strength but also questions of competitive balance. Provinces must deliver not only for sponsors but for fans who will be loyal to sponsors but want to feel as though they are being treated as special.
The demand for measurable return on investment is higher than ever: digital engagement, women’s rugby visibility, and grassroots activation are now essential, and in a crowded sponsorship market, rugby must continue to prove its relevance and value.
Leinster’s excellence, Munster’s heritage, Ulster’s renewal and Connacht’s spirit combine to create a tapestry of sponsorship platforms that few sports can match.
Let the games commence.
