Olytico’s analysis for August 2025 incorporates over 14,000 posts, 3 million engagements, and close to 10 million views of the Sport for Business organisation’s content on TikTok.

A year ago, the same numbers were 12,000 posts, but six million engagements, and 9.8 million views on TikTok.

Clearly, the evidence suggests that the number of engagements across social media has decreased from its peak; however, this was likely due to the coverage of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

While engagement fell across all platforms, Instagram continues to dominate, generating 1.92 million public engagements, which account for 75% of all engagement across X, Facebook, and Instagram.

Today, in the first of four articles on social media metrics from last month, we are focusing on Facebook.

In the infographics below, we have ranked each organisation across a range of metrics on each network, including the most active, the most engaged with, and the most engaging content, as well as engagements per 1,000 followers where possible.

It is important to note that this analysis is based on publicly available data. It does not include any analysis or insight on paid or promoted content. When % figures are used (unless otherwise stated), they refer to the previous month’s figures.

Here is how our monthly report coverage will shape up during the week.

August 2025 Highlights on Facebook

Facebook activity fell 9% in August to 4,384 posts, with a subsequent 33% decrease in engagements (507,002).

In 2024 with the Olympics and the Paralympics boosting levels of interest the number of engagements was 1,038,556

For the seventh month in a row, the League of Ireland topped the activity charts (690 posts, +16%) as history was made thanks to Shelbourne and Shamrock Rovers both qualifying for the League Phase of European competition.

The NIFL (571, +55%) followed in second, and Shamrock Rovers (275, +53%) were in third.

Sport Ireland (22, +144%) looked forward to Davis Cup tennis returning to Dublin in September, and Leinster Rugby (154, +83%) launched their new Alt kit for 2025/26.

The BKT URC (1,087, +89%) topped the engagement per post charts, followed by Irish Rugby (484, -30%) as the Women kicked off their World Cup campaign with an emphatic victory against Japan, and the Northern Ireland National Team (289, -31%).

The LOI Women’s account (1,273) topped the average engagements per 1,000 followers metric as Athlone Town claimed two wins from two in Europe.  That is higher than the number for any of the non Paris 2024 related accounts a year ago.

Content from South Africa proved successful yet again for the URC as this ‘Pure Happiness’ wholesome content from the HollwoodBet Sharks featuring Nkosi The Rugby Guy was the most engaged with content on Facebook in August, generating over 22,000 public engagements to date.
