The Republic of Ireland U17 Women’s soccer squad will come together in Clonshaugh later today ahead of a three game qualifying phase in Belarus next week for the European Championship finals.
Ireland are the top seeded team in a group featuring Finland, Georgia and Belarus. They will play all three sides in Minsk next Monday, Wednesday and Saturday in a bid to reach the next elite phase of qualifying.  Northern Ireland have already made it that far and it would be some achievement if one or both sides were to make it through to the Finals which take place in Switzerland next June.
The U17 team from 2010 (pictured) made it as far as the World Cup quarter finals and we are building a strong squad of senior national players for future years.
College Corinthians striker Megan Connolly is a name to watch out for having scored all three goal in a double header fixture against Denmark earlier this month.
They are not the only Irish women in soccer action.  Paula Brady, a key supporter of Sport for Business at Ulster Bank is also travelling in Europe as part of the referee team looking after the Women’s Champions’ League tie between Unia Raciborz of Poland and Vfb Wolfsburg of Germany in Poland later this evening.
