The Irish Society of Exercise and Sports Science (ISESA) is set to host its 2025 Conference on May 22–23 at South East Technological University (SETU) in Waterford, bringing together top researchers, practitioners, and athletes to explore the theme of bridging research with real-world impact in sports and exercise science.
The two-day event opens with a keynote from Dr Diane Cooper, CEO and founder of EduFit, who will explore the evolution of exercise science in managing health, ageing, and chronic disease.
Her talk sets the tone for a conference packed with over a dozen expert-led symposia, from community-focused programmes like Football is Medicine to cutting-edge sessions on data analytics, wearables, and AI’s growing role in sport, the latter with Dr Kieran Collins of TUD who will be our guest next Thursday on the Sport for Business Podcast
There will be an Elite Athlete Panel featuring Olympian Tom Barr, Camogie star Laura Treacy, and Paralympian Tiarnán O’Donnell.
There will be Symposiums on women in sport, Paralympic performance, adolescent physical activity, and nutrition’s role in bridging research and practice.
The keynotes on Friday morning will be from Dr John Kiely (University of Limerick) on the future of contemporary sports science and from high-performance expert Dr Peter Tierney on the application of research from the pitch to performance apparel.
The programme also offers dedicated sessions for postgraduate research, a careers panel with leaders from Sport Ireland and professional sport, and a strong industry presence with exhibitors and networking opportunities.
ISESA 2025 aims not just to present leading-edge academic research, but to highlight its practical applications — from grassroots inclusion to elite performance.
With social events like a jog on the Waterford Greenway and a networking evening at Revolution bar, the conference promises to be both smart and a great way to expand your network in this space.
