Reaching High is the name of a Willie Mullins horse racing at Leopardstown tonight in the Leopardstown Lady Riders Handicap.

What makes it a little out of the ordinary is that it is owned by reigning British monarch King Charles III.

It is believed to be the first time that a reigning British monarch has had a horse in training in Ireland.

Depending on how it develops it may make up into a horse to be aimed at future Cheltenham, Dublin Racing, Punchestown or Aintree Festivals.

Mullins has been Champion Trainer in ireland on 18 occasions and also in Britain in each of the last two years.

He is the most successful racehorse trainer of all time from his base in Closutton, County Carlow, and can now add ‘By Royal Appointment’ to his list of accolades, should he so choose.

SPORT FOR BUSINESS PERSPECTIVE

Known colloquially as the sport of kings, the phrase carries a little more resonance today and will be an additional boost to the sunshine crowds at Leopardstown this evening.  It is considered unlikely that the owner will make a surprise appearance, but if he does, interim CEO Vicki Donlon will take it in her stride.

WHAT’S UP NEXT?

Reaching High runs at 20:30 this evening.
