THE Lidl All-Ireland Post-Primary Schools Finals are back, with captains from the competing teams gathering at Croke Park yesterday ahead of six eagerly-anticipated games.

The Junior A, B and C Finals will be played next Saturday, March 26, with the Senior A, B and C Finals down for decision across Friday, April 1 and Saturday, April 2.

The LGFA and competition sponsor Lidl have also confirmed that the Senior A Final between Moate Community School from Westmeath and their opponents, St Mary’s from Midleton in Cork will be live-streamed on the LGFA’s Facebook Page on Saturday, April 2nd.

Three years ago, the Senior A decider, won by Scoil Chríost Rí of Portlaoise, was live-streamed for the first time.

The 2020 and 2021 competitions were unfortunately cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic and there is a palpable sense of excitement surrounding the 2022 Finals.

In the Senior A Final, St Mary’s, Midleton, will aim to become Cork’s first competition winners since Loreto, Fermoy, back in 2013.

St Mary’s were beaten Senior C finalists in 2019 and standing in their way this time are Moate CS, who would become Westmeath’s very first Senior A winners if they can achieve victory.

These games are extra special having been lost for two years and represent the very best of underage sport taking place in every corner of the country.

The viewing numbers may never be huge but the memories created will last a lifetime.
