Sport Ireland and Sporting Pride have launched a new #LetsGetVisible campaign as part of Dublin Pride Health and Wellbeing Week which is currently taking place. The campaign aims to recognise and acknowledge the importance of visibility and representation amongst the LGBTQI+ community, specifically in the sport sector.
Sport for Business will host an online session with representatives of Sport Ireland, Sporting pride, Triathlon Ireland, Aviva and the Emerald Warriors this Thursday, June 17th where we will look at some of the key issues in this area of diversity and inclusion, and at some of the projects that have really made a difference.
We will be joined by Helen McHugh of Sport Ireland, Aidan Walsh of Sporting Pride, Lisa Bergin of Aviva, Nikki Bradley of Triathlon Ireland and Richie Fagan of the Emerald Warriors
Register to join us at 10 AM on Thursday right here.
“Inclusion is a core value of the National Sports Policy 2018-2027 and Sport Ireland is committed to promoting that value by ensuring that sport is welcoming and inclusive, offering appropriate opportunity for participation and improvement to all,” said John Treacy, CEO of Sport Ireland.
“Sport Ireland has been engaging with the sport sector, representative organisations and individuals to discuss how the sport sector can work together to promote inclusion and embrace diversity in sport.”
“There is some way to go yet until everyone feels comfortable and welcome in sport but campaigns like this, and celebrating Pride can help to bring us one step closer to this end goal. I would like to wish Sport Ireland’s LGBTQI+ staff members, athletes, participants and sports enthusiasts a Happy Pride.”
“We are delighted to work with Sport Ireland on this ground-breaking campaign to show support for the LGBTQ+ community within all aspects of Irish sport,” added Aidan Walsh, Chair of Sporting Pride.
“The National Governing Bodies and Local Sports Partnerships who share this important message are, for the first time, telling members of the LGBTQ+ community that they will be welcomed with open arms to participate, officiate, support and volunteer…a huge step in Ireland’s journey to become world leaders for LGBTQ+ inclusion in sport.”
“A lot of work is ongoing in Sport Ireland and the sport sector as a whole to make sport welcoming and inclusive for everyone, including members of the LGBTQI+ community,” concluded Una May, Director of Participation and Ethics at Sport Ireland.
“Pride month is a great opportunity to celebrate the progress to date and to ensure that momentum continues and that everyone feels welcome and included in sport. I encourage everyone to download the #LetsGetVisible social media frame and use #LetsGetVisible to show your support.”
Sport Ireland, Aviva, Sporting Pride and Triathlon Ireland are among the 250+ members of the Sport for Business network of sporting and business organisations working together across a number of key areas.
