Sport for Business hosted a special morning event in Galway yesterday where the fever of two All Ireland Football Finals and the Galway races over the next ten days gave rise to a great atmosphere.
Michael Moloney and Sinéad Cassidy from the Galway races kicked off the morning, remarkably relaxed that everything was in order for Monday’s opening meeting and they were joined by Kieran O’Malley of the Connacht Hospitality Group who hosted us in An Púcan in the heart of the City and will be sponsoring ladies Day next week.
Watch our on Social media throughout the seven day extravaganza. Sinéad told us there will be a team of ten attending to the storytelling of all that is going on with the horses and the people.
We were then joined by former Galway footballer, club manager at Salthill Knocknacarra and successful businessman Conor McGauran who gave us an insight into what it will be like within the Galway and Armagh camps ahead of Sunday’s decider, as well as for Galway and Kerry the week after in the TG4 Ladies Football final.
A golf putting competition among the guests showed that there is sporting talent as well as sporting intelligence in the City of the Tribes before we were joined by three guests from Galway working in sport on a global stage.
Joanne Murphy is the voice of Ironman events across the world.
Warren Healy founded Clubforce after a career in technology and is transforming the way clubs operate.
Louise Burke is Director of Participation at Sport Ireland and spoke passionately about the work being done to encourage ever greater sporting participation across the country, ultimately giving rise to a healthier population and a pipeline for the high performance athletes who will be competing in the Olympics and Paralympics in Paris, Los Angeles and Brisbane over the next three cycles, as well as in every other sporting endeavour.
Our final two sessions focused on sponsorship and media with Noel Martyn of Core, Siobhán McDonagh of SuperMac’s, Rónán O Coisdealbha of TG$ and Kieran Hartigan of Irish productions giving us brilliant insight into the world beyond the white lines of the sport themselves.
The conversation flowed, connections were made and the excitement for the week ahead in Galway was at fever pitch when we reluctantly had to bring things to a close.
We have a host of other events taking place in the remainder of 2024 and well into 2025 and there is nothing quite like coming together with peers to learn, share, connect and more.
We will be back to Galway next Thursday for the races and again for a similar event to yesterday’s in the near future, maybe even in the company of Sam Maguire and Brendan martin if events in Croke Park go well over the next two Sundays.
