It will be a busy start for Ireland on Day 3 of these championships, with the endurance athletes heading proceedings with Hiko Tonosa, Shona Heaslip, and Emily Haggard Kearney all taking to their respective half marathons from 8am.
Nicola Tuthill makes her senior European Championship debut in the women’s hammer from 9.05am. Tuthill recently became only the second Irish woman to throw over 70m behind Olympian Eileen O’Keefe’s national record (73.21m). The UCD athlete will be looking to gain senior championship experience and challenge the Q mark of 71.50m.
Mark Smyth goes in the first round of the men’s 200m heats from 10:50am, before the long hurdlers of Kelly McGrory (11:40am), and newly crowned European relay champion, Thomas Barr, take to the heats of the 400m hurdles (12:20).
The evening session will see the women’s 400m trio of Rhasidat Adeleke, Sharlene Mawdsley, and Sophie Becker go in search of a place in Monday’s medal decider from 7.05pm.
Christoper O’Donnel will also be in 400m semi-final action when he takes to the track for the third time this week (7.38pm).
All eyes will then turn to the women’s 1500m final with Ciara Mageean and Sarah Healy going in search of European glory from 9.36pm.
