The Bord Gáis Energy GAA Legends Tour series is going online for a second season and was launched yesterday by three of the stars who will be taking part.

Seán Boylan, Noelle Healy and Ken McGrath were in relaxed and chatty form from their various homes as they spoke yesterday about some of their own memories of playing and managing and on some of the hot take topics of the day.

Boylan was in sparkling form chatting about his role with the Down U20’s and looking back on the commitment of players.

He recalled a time when the Meath County Board was saving and fundraising to improve Tailteann Park and the decision was taken that they couldn’t afford to pay for players to have meals after training.

He stood up for his players, some of whom were working in high-pressure jobs and travelling from across the country to train.

“A cup of tea and two Marietta biscuits wouldn’t keep you going,” he said with a smile before revealing that he organised for food to be served up for the lads but was never sure who had paid for it.

You can be guaranteed that he will have a few gems up his sleeve for his appearance on the legends tour on August 25th.

The virtual tours, which start on Wednesday 7 July, will feature in-depth interviews with the GAA Museum and a host of Legends and will be available to watch weekly on Bord Gáis Energy’s Rewards Club webpage and on Croke Park’s website and social channels.

They start off with Noel Lane on July 7th and will also feature Mickey Linden, Declan Browne, Tomás Mulcahy, Noelle Healy and Ken McGrath.

“We’re very proud of our long association with the GAA Museum and are delighted to bring the eighth season of the Bord Gáis Energy GAA Legends Tour series to GAA fans,” said Bord Gáis Energy Retail Director Colin Bebbington.

“Seán, Noelle and Ken are all rightly regarded as greats of the games and big thanks to them and all our other legends for taking part. We’re excited to hear from them over the course of the coming months.”

“Our partnership with the GAA stretches back well over a decade now, and I’d like to thank the GAA for their continued support.”

“Last year the tours moved online, and it enabled us to bring the stories and insights from these incredible players to a wider audience,” added GAA Museum Director Niamh McCoy.

“The Bord Gáis Energy GAA Legends Tours are always a highlight of our summer season at the GAA Museum and we look forward to resuming them in Croke Park in the future.”

“This year, we hope people tune in and enjoy the online tours once again. The line-up is fantastic, and we’d like to thank all the legends for taking the time to tell us their stories and being part of our summer programme.”
