Microsoft has continued a strong recent push towards sport with a new deal as the official technology partner to La Liga in Spain.
The partnership will use cloud and digital technology to deliver what are described as new digital experiences to up to 1.6 billion fans around the world.
There are bold claims being made as to what this will mean for Spanish football first but then the wider sporting world.
“Our partnership with LaLiga is going to lead to a major new wave of innovation in the sports industry, revolutionizing the way in which supporters relate to clubs and players, and radically transforming the management model of the sports organizations themselves,” according to Microsoft Iberia President Philip Lopez in a company statement.
That could mean more use of artificial intelligence and data capture to tell fans what they should be watching and engaging with.
It could also mean more integration with gaming platforms, greater use of live technology for player monitoring on the pitch and wider broadcast of that data to fans.
It’s an exciting time to be alive in sport and technology. Sport for Business will look to follow up with Microsoft’s Ireland operations to see what role they might have to play in this deeper dive into the sporting world.
