In the second of a new weekly feature for members of the Sport for Business Community we look at deals from around the world that are relevant to Irish sporting bodies or from companies that have a presence here in Ireland.

Mobile Move for Broadcast Rights

bbva - vodafone

Vodafone and Orange have signed the rights to broadcast La Liga matches in bars and public places.  This is one of the packages made available after the Spanish football giants Barcelona and Real Madrid were forced to move to collective sale of rights.

It is likely that the two mobile phone companies will sub license the rights to a third party but the importance of the deal lies in the fact that they are staking a claim to live rights in an area that has previously been the preserve of major state broadcasters or pay per view operators.

The game is getting more interesting all the time.
