Grace Muldowney from Rathdrum, Co. Wicklow has been named as this year’s recipient of the Vision Sports Ireland Education Bursary proudly supported by Mason Hayes & Curran.
Grace is completing her first year of studies in BSc Physiotherapy in UCD. Describing herself as someone who is highly motivated and a people person, Grace’s ideal job would be to work in National Rehabilitation Centre in Dublin helping people who have faced a crisis to support their rehabilitation journey.
Grace has a vision impairment called Knobloch’s Syndrome which provides challenges both academically and personally however she faces them head on, determined to achieve her goals.
The Vision Sports Ireland Education Bursary supports students with a vision impairment to pursue their academic goals by providing financial assistance of up to €2,000 per annum for the duration of their undergraduate degree up to a maximum of €8,000.
The bursary is open to all Vision Sports Ireland members who are registered blind or vision impaired and studying within Ireland or the UK.
It is part of Vision Sports Ireland’s ongoing commitment to promoting sport and physical activity opportunities for people who are blind and vision impaired in Ireland.
The organisation recognises the challenges that people with vision impairments face in accessing third level education within the sport and physical activity faculty, including the financial burden of pursuing higher education. The bursary aims to help alleviate some of these pressures by providing financial assistance to students who are blind or vision impaired.
This initiative is supported by Mason Hayes & Curran who have kindly provided a financial contribution to allow Vision Sports Ireland to support and invest in the future of the next generation.
“Equal access to education is necessary to allow everyone to realise their ambitions and reach their full potential,” said Managing Partner Will Carmody.
“There are many different types of obstacles to that access; such as, social, financial and physical disability. No matter what circumstances a person has to navigate, we believe that everyone should be given fair and equal access to all educational opportunities.”
“That’s why we are proud to once again partner with Vision Sports Ireland, supporting their Education Bursary which helps those with a visual impairment to access higher education in the sport and physical activity faculties. We are delighted to congratulate Grace on her achievement in entering third-level education to study in the field of physiotherapy and we will be cheering her on as she pursues her aspirations in both education and sport in the years ahead.”
“For the second consecutive year we are delighted to partner with Mason Hayes & Curran for our Education Bursary,” added National Sports Development Manager with Vision Sports Ireland Pádraig Healy.
“We believe that everyone should have access to higher education and this bursary is part of our ongoing commitment to foster opportunities for youths with vision impairment. Grace is a deserving recipient and we look forward to hearing about her successes and achievements in the years ahead.”
