After her bronze medal success on day one, Ní Riain was back in the pool yesterday to stake her claim in the SB13 100m Breaststroke final.
Competing from lane three, Ni Riain initially touched the wall in third place, trailing Olivia Chambers of the United States and Marian Polo Lopez of Spain.
However, the Limerick swimmer raised her pace in the second half of the race, climbing into second place and finishing just behind Chambers in 1:18.78.
Speaking after the final, Ní Riain said: “Yeah, I’m pretty pleased with that swim. This event has been a bit up and down this season, but yeah, to be able to come out and put I think my best swim together when it matters in a close race is great”
The final three members of the Para swimming squad will kick off their campaigns today on day three, when they take to the pool for their opening events.
Deaten Registe is first up in the SB14 100m Breaststroke, Dearbhaile Brady goes straight to a final in the SM6 200m Individual Medley, and Barry McClements lines up for the S9 100m Butterfly.
