The 2025 Para Swimming World Championships got underway yesterday, with Roisín Ní Ríaian already securing a bronze medal.

On her World Championship debut, Síomha Nic Brádaigh produced a superb personal best of 03:25.82 in the S7 200m event, securing 6th place and underlining her promise at this level.

There was more to cheer in the evening session as Róisín Ní Riain, already a double Paralympic medallist, delivered a typically determined performance. Having qualified from her S13 100m Butterfly heat in second place, she returned to the pool to battle her way to a brilliant bronze medal finish, clocking 01:04.47 in a fiercely contested final.

Ní Riain had previously won silver in the event at the 2023 Para Swimming World Championships in Manchester but was edged out of the medals at last year’s Paralympic Games.

“I did not realise how close of a race that was,” she said.

“To be honest, I’m happy with it. It’s been a slightly newer event focus for me, so hopefully over the coming years I can get better and better.”

Both Ní Riain and Nic Brádaigh have already been in action today, with Ní Ríain advancing to the final of the SB13 Breaststroke Final at 13:16, and Nic Brádaigh finishing 6th in the S7 400m Freestyle.

The remaining three members of the Irish squad will begin their campaigns tomorrow. You can track all times of competition and broadcast visibility in our Rolling Guide to TV Sports and Streaming.

Paralympics Ireland sponsors include Allianz, Deloitte, Spar, Uber, Nestle, Hays, Goosebump and Sport Ireland.

Progression to finals is dependent on heat results, with the exception of Dearbhaile Brady, who goes directly to all finals.
