The President of the Olympic Council of Ireland, Pat Hickey, has resigned from a group charged with making the most for Ireland of the Olympic Games presence in London in 2012.
The Olympic Council of Ireland confirmed the resignation had been made via correspondence with the Chair of the working group, Minister of State Michael Ring.
Mr Hickey had previously made known his disappointment over the lack of major sports facilities being developed in the run up to the Olympics.
The groups making up the Committee comprise three government departments, the Irish Sports Council, the Arts Council, Culture Ireland, the Olympic Council of Ireland, Paralympics Ireland, Failte Ireland and Tourism Ireland.
Each of those bodies has a strong incentive and ability to promote Ireland but perhaps the addition of a commercial point of view might have either sparked interest in the potential of public private partnerships or at worst managed expectations of what was possible.
