Irish based crowdfunding platform Pledge Sports is over 80% of the way towards raising €100,000 investment towards international expansion.
Naturally it has been raising the money through the means by which it operates itself and the campaign on seeds.com has, at time of writing this morning reached €82,150.
The money has come from a total of 45 investors in total so far, putting in money ranging from €55,000 at the upper end to as little as €10 to say you were part of the ‘investment team’.
That emotional connection through an investment can be an important motivator for those who support the sporting campaigns that are Pledge Sports’ stock in trade. Tennis, Hockey, Golf and MMA are among the sports and individuals that have successfully mounted campaigns raising money to assist with training, tournaments and other milestones on the road to sporting achievement.
Investors get a variety of benefits which can range from updates to merchandise, tickets to the more intangible reward of having helped.
Crowdfunding in sport is following a path trodden by early stage businesses and Pledge Sports appears to be the first of a kind to use the business side of the idea to benefit the sporting one.
Sport for Business is a supporter and has joined the group of investors. Our small contribution will help the company take the power of the crowd to markets beyond Ireland and the UK where it currently operates and hopefully bring sporting ambitions to life in a variety of different ways.
Among the campaigns currently on the site is one for Emma Cahill, a young rider paralysed four years ago in an accident who has battled back to set her sights on representing Ireland internationally in Para Dressage.
The Pledge Sports campaign on its own behalf runs for another week. Investments qualify for E11 tax relief. It’s a way of making a small amount of money go a lot further than you might have imagined. We are pleased to be part of the team.
