2014 Junior World Championship Semi Final PhotocallBrazil is not the only World Cup going on at the moment and the U20 Rugby World Championships in New Zealand have seen the Irish team advance to the semi final.

This is perhaps the furthest any Irish team have gone in a major world tournament and the success has been warmly welcomed by team sponsors PwC.

Earlier this week Irish Captain Jack O’Donoghue and his counterparts on the New Zealand, England and South Africa teams visited the PwC offices in Aukland, pictured above.

“We are long term sponsors of the team and it is fantastic what this present group of players, management and support staff have achieved,” said John Boyle, Director of Business Development and Marketing at the firm.

“Our involvement around sport is focused on promising young individuals and how we can help them to reach their potential on and off the pitch.”

Activity

“We have been showing the France, Wales and Fiji matches on our internal media walls and we will be ramping up the activity now ahead of Saturday’s semi final and hopefully one more..”

“We also have a number of staff involved in the GAA Championships so it is proving to be a busy and lively summer so far.”

“Sky were in the offices during the week to film a piece which may air ahead of the Dublin Wexford game on Saturday night and we will all be up bright and early for the match against England to kick off the day.”

Live

The semi final is being shown live on TG4 with a 0605 start time on Sunday morning and the game is being shown deferred in full at 11-50 for those who want a lie in and are able to impose a social and mainstream media blackout around themselves.

PwC have ensured throughout the deal that their brand is very prominent, with references in official communication always referring to the Ireland U20 team, sponsored by PwC.  TV coverage is locked into the partnership as well which has meant a much higher profile for Mike Ruddock’s charges and a positive aura for the sport and the sponsor.

Getting to this stage of the World Cup is bonus territory but is very positive given the retirement of so many of the older guard at international level over the last weeks and years.
