Leading Irish animal feed company Connolly’s Red Mills is to expand its existing strong sports sponsorship portfolio by agreeing to support a 13 race challenge with the UK Jockey Club.  The series will culminate with a final at Aintree, the home of the Grand National, in May 2013.
The races, which will be staged at racecourses across England that are owned by the Jockey Club will carry points for winning and placed horses and there will be prizes for the Champion trainer at the end of the series.
Connolly’s Red Mills is based in Kilkenny.  It entered the thoroughbred racing market in the 1960’s when local training legend Paddy Mullins visited the business to discuss an eating problem he was having with one of his horses.  A new mixture was tried and Vulpine went on to win the Irish National and the Powers Gold Cup.
Since then the company has been an active sponsor within horse racing, greyhound racing and horse sport.
This Saturday sees the company’s showpiece event when the world class Connolly’s Red Mills Irish Champion Stakes takes place at Leopardstown.  It also supports events at the Discover Ireland Horse Show in August and at Greyhound tracks around the country including the Laurels at Curraheen Park in Cork.  Market Rasen, Exeter, Huntingdon, Carlisle, Warwick and Wincanton between September and April, will culminate in a final event at Aintree on May 17.
