Sport for Business’ Coverage of the 2016 Olympic Games is supported by Team Ireland Official Partner Electric Ireland #ThePowerWithin

A team of 45 presenters, camera crew, technicians and support staff will be travelling to Rio over the next ten days under the team leadership of Deputy Head of TV Sport Cliona O’Leary who will be reprising the role from Beijing 2008 but on a larger scale.
A similar number again will be remaining at Montrose to produce live studio based coverage that will run throughout the day and night to take account of the South American time zones.
After scoring a major success with viewing figures and advertising revenue from the Euros there is a confidence at the station that sport can be a big player in winning audiences. The focus in the football around big matches in primetime meant that it was perfectly suited to attract the national audience and the Olympics will not match those figures that generated the five most watched programmes of the year so far.
That said it provides ‘appointment to view’ television at a time of year in August when schedules are traditionally light and audiences smaller.
It appears unlikely there will be an overall sponsor of the Olympics coverage across all platforms in the same way as their was with Cadbury four years ago as the complexities around IOC global partnerships makes it especially challenging to get big brands on board.
Electric Ireland is the main commercial sponsor of Team Ireland and is activating through TV advertising and online promotion including support for Sport for Business’ online coverage of the Games but it will not be featuring in stings in and out of coverage in the way that would be the case for a broadcast sponsorship.
“It’s hugely exciting for all of us in RTÉ Sport as we prepare to bring our biggest, most comprehensive Olympics coverage ever to Irish viewers,” said Group Head of Sport Ryle Nugent.
“A team of analysts including former Olympic medal winners and competitors will join us to offer their insights across a wide range of sports, as over 70 Irish athletes compete in Rio.”
“Beginning on 5 August, RTÉ Sport will take you there across RTÉ television, radio, online and mobile, focusing on Team Ireland in particular as they take their place alongside the best athletes in the world at the ultimate international sporting event.”
