CANTERBURY’S UNTOUCHABLE LIONS JERSEY

The British and Irish Lions Jersey will be revealed later today but 30 fans who had pre-ordered the iconic shirt got a sneak preview yesterday when they received bespoke mobile devices that generated a hologram of the shirt.

It was a smart play on the notion of the real shirt as untouchable until you’ve been selected to play and a good use of technology to raise the anticipation for what they anticipate will be a major sales push over the next eight months.

“We’re really excited to provide committed British and Irish Lions fans with a unique opportunity to see the ‘untouchable jersey’ before the rest of the world,” said Canterbury CEO Chris Stevenson.

“Some of these supporters have been waiting a long time to see what their heroes will be wearing during the tour to New Zealand, and to reveal that in such a distinctive way is something we’re very proud of.”

“We can’t wait for the rest of the world to see the jersey in all its glory and are confident that it will be very well received.”

COULD IRELAND HOST A SPORTS HACKATHON?

Hackathon’s are a way of gathering technology experts and coders together in a hot house environment to produce applications which can be used to enhance the way in which business can be done.

In the world of sport, usage numbers for mobile data soars and it is little surprise that Vodafone, Three and eir are among the biggest sponsors of sport in this country.

mlb-hackathonThe Baseball World Series currently poised at 3-2 to the Cleveland Indians has been the trigger for a sports Hackathon in Chicago where finalists from a competition run over several months came together to develop their ideas and pitch to a panel of judges to go into full development.

Sport for Business has had a strong response to its call for a new Sports Accelerator for Dublin and will be meeting a number of interested parties on December 7th to explore how this might look.

Could one of the ideas to emerge be a Sports Hackathon in Ireland, based around the Six Nations in Rugby, the All Ireland Finals in GAA or Qualifiers for the World Cup in Soccer?
